How schema.org will revolutionize site building

Speakers:

With schema.org support in 7 and 8, Drupal is closer than any other CMS to realizing the promise of the semantic web. But as Google Fellow Guha said last year “The web is not just about the top 10, 15 or 20 websites [it’s the] hundreds of thousands of smaller websites, which is what makes the adoption of schema.org by Drupal so exciting”. The problem is that to increase the penetration of schema.org requires a simple—almost automatic—process for site builders to add the mappings to their sites.

This session introduces site builders to Schema.org, schema.org kickstart and the entity fields builder module which can be used to quickly create content types that leverage things like rich snippets in Google search results while at the same time dramatiaclly reducing development time.

Taking it a step further we will show how module and distribution developers can start using features module to build shareable semantic “content packages” that bundle related semantic content types and views into plug and play features like "albums and songs", or “Recipes and ingredients”.

This session is an updated version of a talk originally presented at BADcamp 2013 to a standing-room-only audience: http://2013.badcamp.net/sessions/how-schemaorg-will-revolutionize-site-b...
