With a business degree from Western Michigan, Michael Hartman did what most business majors do and launched a career in music. Touring across the US,
Europe and Asia was not as glamorous as it sounded in theory. Michael decided to mash
up his business training with his creativity and settle in Chicago, where he built and ran
the operations for a digital boutique.

Looking for an environment where he had more creative flexibility, he joined Sandstorm.
He now leads the development team, information architects, user research and usability
studies (in our lab here at Sandstorm). Michael is a scientist at heart and loves being able
to figure out new technical solutions to better meet the user’s needs.

Combining his experience as Drupal developer, technical project manager and customer
experience director, Michael is on the leading edge of both UX and digital trends, and
has an intuitive skill for identifying a sites’ main objectives, user needs, and then
responding with a solution.

Michael is also a second degree black belt and instructor in Tae Kwon Do and is an active member of his dojang in Chicago.
