Can anyone answer...what is the most successful process in any website build? I think.....I can finally answer that question :)
The Spiral Method!
The Spiral Method lies somewhere in-between the old school Waterfall process & fancy buzz word, Agile process.
What Spiral is NOT:
Waterfall.........
- Long drawn out Discovery process fully detailing the IA
- Design round city
- Heads down Dev & Theming which begins the "Black Hole" of client status
- Quality Assurance Phase where the site gets delivered, "Does anyone even remember what we were building?"
- QA Phase then truly becomes "New Feature Phase" rather than True Bug Fixing
Agile.........
- Requires very large chucks of client time to be a success
- Iterations of development that seem like chunky disconnected pieces that make up a whole, that is eons away of coming together...
- One iteration slips and there goes the budget!
- PM requests more budget/Scope change, and there goes the trust and relationship!
So....Let's Discuss the Spiral Success!
- Engaging UX & Strategy phase
- Followed by detailed sketches & IA
- Exciting Design Rounds
- Theming & Development house weekly reveals w/client to focus on section in development. This open the client up to a world of early on - unanticipated feedback that helps shape & sculpt the site together as a full team unit.
Using the Spiral methodology enforces team trust and transparency, which in turn drives long on-going strategic partnerships. Not only is the finished product coming to life right before the client and internal teams eyes w/no surprises, the client is ready for the on-going engagement of enhancements post launch......
As we all know, a website is only just born at launch!
