Creating beautiful websites that work well on mobile isn't as hard as it might seem. By following best practices and taking advantage of a few key modules, the process of making your site mobile friendly becomes a cinch.

We're going to be discussing the best practices for handling the tricky issues that every themer goes through.

• Navigation (both main menu and child links)
• Clean search options
• Rotating slideshows / carousels
• Audio and video players
• Replacing views grids with divs that adapt with screen size

We'll also be introducing some of the most popular responsive base themes and go into depth demonstrating the features provided by the Zen base theme out of the box. We're going to briefly touch on zen grids and demonstrate some pros to using compass/sass. We'll demonstrate media queries and demonstrate just how much you can do with your theme in a short amount of time.

This session is perfect for anyone who wants a website that looks great on mobile. The techniques discussed will be appropriate for someone starting from scratch or converting their existing theme to work responsively. We're going to be working in Drupal 7, however many of these techniques that involve modules will continue to work in Drupal 8.
