Drupal in Disguise

This session will address a long-standing issue with Drupal in that it's entirely wonderful and profoundly unintuitive! For those not steeped in Drupal-Speak or "The Drupal Way", there's a mighty wall to climb over and that's a pretty rough exercise for our clients and end-users. You know what I'm talking about if you've ever had a conversation that goes something like this...

Client: "How to I edit this paragraph?"

Developer: “But sir, that area is a dynamically generated part of the node template that lives in code so you can’t edit it. You see?”

Client: "So then what about that part?"

Developer: “Of course you can edit the one right next to it since it’s only a custom block with a full HTML filter. Silly!!”

Client: "Do you guys know Wordpress?"

We get so caught up in the Drupal world that we forget we now speak "Drupal" and end up presenting UI to our end-user/client that assumes they understand nodes, entities, views, blocks, taxonomies, etc and all the implications. Well, we need to stop doing that! This session will give some ideas on how to shift our approach to UI by disguising Drupal a little better and then be free to love Drupal without forcing a particular language and methodology on our end-users.
