Drupal 7 Performance Optimization Options and Checklist

Speakers:

As great as Drupal 7 core can be, it doesn't scale well for Web sites with a lot of content and/or a lot of users. To make it perform better under these scenarios, it's necessary to make use of several strategies, tools and techniques.

By attending this session, you'll develop an understanding of what the options are in making your Drupal site more performant. So when you run into performance-related issues, you'll have an idea of where to begin.

I plan to cover the following areas:

  • Configuration Best Practices
  • Views Caching
  • System Administration
  • Cache Replacements
  • Caching and Optimizing Specific Components
  • External Caching
  • Cache Warming / Priming
  • Services
  • Drupal-Specific Hosting
  • Tools
  • Useful References

In the last year, I've worked on several projects that required a fair amount of work on performance-related issues. As a result, I've done quite a bit of research that I've been able to collate and share with others.

As my blog post Drupal 7 Performance Optimization Options and Checklist usually comes up in the top five on a Google search of "drupal performance", I thought it would be great to talk about this at DrupalCon!

I'll explain why there is no one-size-fits-all approach (i.e. don't solve problems you don't have), give examples of how to look into specific issues, get into the details of the above items, and share some experiences with recent projects. Also, I'm hoping to leave some time for discussion during the question period.
