Do More With Drupal

Speakers:

Many groups run their public websites using Drupal, but it's also a powerful tool for organizations in the social sector, allowing them to build applications for problems that are largely ignored by commercial, off-the-shelf providers. Drupal can bridge gaps in ways that mean the difference between compromise and fulfilling your organizational mission.

This session focuses on how to do more with Drupal by learning to think about it as a platform for application development as opposed to merely a straightforward content management system. It focuses on how organizations use Drupal to collaborate effectively and how to leverage the tools Drupal offers in ways that can have a significant impact.

I will present case studies for non-profit and academic organizations that showcase ways of using Drupal as a platform for application development, and talk about the outcomes organizations are achieving with the system.

Attendees will learn more about solutions they can provide using Drupal beyond building organizational websites and what tools are available to build Drupal-based applications. This session will focus on the following applications and talk about how organizations are using them:

  • An online carbon calculator that tracks emissions and offers personalized recommendations for users;
  • An identity management system that pulls in data about faculty from a centralized API and allows central administration of profile information;
  • A media rights management system with comprehensive search, checkout, history of use, and collaborative publishing capabilities; and
  • A modular CRM system with integrated fundraising, event registration, petition and volunteer features, that can be extended to tackle virtually any use case for tracking contact information.
