Open civic hackathon / app stores

The OpenCivic distro of Drupal is designed to support communities of software developers in creating, cataloguing and sharing software applications. It provides a platform for sharing information specifically about "civic software" used by governments and nonprofit organizations to provide public services. The main goal of this distro therefore is to help build websites that enable people to share information about software applications — what they do, who created them and uses them, where they have been deployed, and how well the software works. It has been used to create websites for hackathons such as the Code for Reslience website as well as software catalogues such as Europe's Civic Exchange. More recently, it is being used to build a Makers contest website for the city of New York (currently under construction).

OpenCivic developers Sheldon Rampton, Janette Day and Dan Feder from Nuams would like to discuss the project with other developers interested in the problem of building software catalogs, hackathon websites and other projects to promote civic innovation.
